Inspiration and Etc.: During FanimeCon 2000, my cosplay group and I saw Mahou Tsukai Tai! for the first time. I think we actually saw the whole series, or at least most of it, over the weekend. We started talking about a cosplay group right after that for the next con. The one character I fit the most was Akane, since I wasn't that fond of Sae or Nanaka (though after finishing the TV series, I like Nanaka a bit more now~) and wasn't into crossplaying yet. XD Van planned Aburatsubo, Makkura was to be Mizuha, and Van's friend Josh was Takeo. One of my friends I had met at Fanime was planning to do Nanaka and Sae with her friend, so we basically had a complete OAV group! The only sad part was, we never got all of us together for a photo at Anime Expo. o_o; Not to mention, I remember at least my costume and Nanaka's weren't done yet either. x_x I would absolutely LOVE to totally revamp this entire costume and have it all nice and complete. I recently finally saw the whole TV series and it made me want to get back into the series and fix up this old costume. So maybe someday that'll happen, and I'll have real photos of this costume!
Construction / Costume Notes: The base costume was made by my late stepmother. I added the big logo on the cape-pullover, and altered my shoes (which were oh so inaccurate x_x). I was incredibly proud of the little design on the front flap I did, though. XD We tried to find blue pantyhose/tights because at the time, dye hadn't really occured to me. I never had time for the gloves or hat, either. It was really rushed because I was so new at everything, and this one had a lot more accessories and random extra parts than Utena did. u_u

Character Background: Akane appears in the OAV and sequel TV series Mahou Tsukai Tai! (released here as Magic User's Club) as well as the manga series related to it. This particular outfit is her uniform for the magic club she joins in high school, even though she is the least active club member. She's more concerned with going out on dates or pursuing her modeling career than going to meetings, but she seems to have the strongest magic power out of any other member.
