XD Maybe that, however fun and flowy it is, the skirt is actually a bit too long.. and the waist is a bit high up, but they don't bother me enough for to really honestly complain! Status: Active
Inspiration and Etc.: I've loved Asuka since 1998 when I first started getting into more anime than the year before. Before I even saw the anime she was my decided upon favorite; just because I was only barely 12 years old at the time and I noticed she had the same hair as I did! XD I often wore it half up like that as well, so to me it was a sealed deal. :P Even though these days I don't quite pick my favorites like that, when I saw the anime I ended up loving Asuka quite a bit anyway. Since her sundress is what you first see her in and I love that episode, it's the first costume I really wanted to do. I've tried to plan it in many times over the years and I'm so glad I was finally able to do it before the end of 2005!!
Construction / Costume Notes: The sundress is made with yellow casa crepe. I love that fabric. ^o^ It's easy to work with, and it was so perfect for a flowy skirt like this costume calls for~! I had fun making this costume because I learned new things in sewing, like how to make darts. :O Daichan made the straps to the dress and added the zipper because of our time crunch. It was made literally in less than two days before the con, and I was too busy with school and work to finish it myself in time. So thank you so much Daichan!! Otherwise I'm really proud of my second costume I really sewed mostly on my own. X3 The choker is just blue ribbon. The plugsuit hairclips were bought off eBay way back in 2001, so I can't even begin to tell you where to start looking since the seller isn't around anymore. ^^; Since it was made in such a rush, I don't actually have real shoes for the costume. I improvised and used my Athena '96 shoes and sock tops together to make something that looked like Asuka's shoes. XD!! I still haven't had time to buy real shoes yet, but I hope to remedy that soon. X_X! At least at ALA I figured out a way to make them work better...? ^^;
Character Background: A main character in the popular anime and manga Neon Genesis Evangelion, Asuka is one of the main EVA pilots in the series. She is normally seen in her school uniform or plugsuit, but wears this sundress in her first appearance in both the comic and animation (under different circumstances, however!). Asuka is a headstrong girl with a forceful personality that covers up her inner insecurities and fears.
