Zell Dincht ~ casual/battle outfit ~ Final Fantasy VIII

Appearances: Halloween 2000, FanimeCon 2001, YaoiCon 2001, Anime Expo 2004 What I Love: How I feel when I wear it and how incredibly comfortable it is aside from my hair. ^^ Just BEING Zell makes me happy~~ What I Don't: Having to style my hair whenever I want to wear it. ^^; Also the fact that my jacket's too big, but next time I wear this I'll just make a new one. :X I need a new, more accurate shirt too. Inspiration and Etc.: YAY ZELL. I think it was actually way back at FanimeCon 2000 that Van and I talked about doing an Irvine/Zell pair. When I played FF8 for the first time he was definitely my favorite out of the group. I tend to be attracted to those silly, dorky character types at times. This was my first crossplay, and one of the few costumes I've brought back recovered after such a long hiatus of not wearing it! (Three years!?) Zell is definitely my favorite... playable RPG character ever. XD (My favorite non-playable would be Kuja from FF9!) I really love running around being him, because whenever I wear the costume I get just as pumped and energetic as he is. I should go for a hot dog run next time I wear it~
Construction / Costume Notes: It's basically mostly store-bought, because Zell wears such trendy normal clothes. :3 I had the jacket commissioned from Stephen, a Zell cosplayer I met at Anime Expo 2000, since I couldn't really sew back then. The shirt is storebought with orange fabric used for the little rectangle at the top. I really need to add the ribbing .. stuff he's got on his top someday. ^^ I made sure to wear gray socks like his, and recently finally used red shoes I had purchased from Target for a few costumes. They aren't red and black like his, but they're a lot better than the white tennis shoes I was wearing before. :P The shorts are skater shorts from the mall~ I love wearing them even out of costume sometimes, because they're soooooooo darn comfortable. I've had assorted different gloves throughout the costume, but most recently when I wore it at AX '04 I made the Maverick gloves by buying biker gloves from the costume store and adding studs. X3 Too bad one fell out during the con. ;_; At the same con I attached my little Zell keychain to my shorts, which amused me verily. ^o^ For the hair, I use my own hair with colored hair spray. I first used that junky yellow kind that makes you hair just look green, but before YaoiCon I found this "blonde highlight spray" that works really well for me. :O I love the stuff. So no, I have no pictures of the funky yellow-green hair. XD The pictures below are all with the nice true blonde sprayed hair. Ahhh Zell. In the future, I want to make my own jacket to fit me a bit better, since my current one is a bit too big, and just add other details in general like maybe custom shoes and a new pair of gloves from the game. ^_^ I want to make his Ehrgeiz pair. >D
Character Background: Zell is one of the main playable characters of Final Fantasy VIII, a classmate of the main character Squall Leonheart at their school Balamb Garden. He's a hot dog loving, energetic, impulsive boy with a strong sense of duty despite his many misfortunes throughout the game. This is Zell's casual outfit he wears for most of the game when not in school uniform or, later, his SeeD uniform.
